Mesa Verde

Driving from New Mexico to Colorado was almost exactly what one would expect. I saw snow covered mountains in the distance after hours of desert, and within an hour I was in Colorado. As promised to my cacti-growing father I took pictures of blooming prickly pears, and made my first (of many as I travelled through the Southwest) lizard friend.

It was another excellent day of food, with leftover sausage and pepper burrito for lunch in New Mexico, and beans with avocado and tomato for dinner. Avocado turned out to be the food that travelled best: it didn’t matter if it fell in the melted ice in the cooler or stayed out in the sun.
