Palo Duro Canyon State Park was a pleasant surprise. I had intended it to just be a spot to sleep on my way to the National Parks of the Southwest, but this little Texas State Park was awesome, and I ended up going for an evening hike. The park itself was mostly in the bottom of the canyon, and the hikes were all up towards the rim.
My first campsite was also lovely, whipped up some sausage and peppers, had a great spot for the tent, and tried out my french press very successfully in the morning while stalking a woodpecker, which according to my very amateur identification skills was a Gila Woodpecker.
